O Recappin’, My Captain…

Hi all! I’m now on holiday vacation for the next four days, and I couldn’t be happier! In all of my pre-Christmas glee, I’ve forgotten to keep my Advent Calendar posts updated! So here’s what’s been going on since we left off:

  • Dec 12th- We put Rudolph on the the tree while watching the old school Rudolph movie and a few other weird ones on Netflix. Naturally, there were antler headbands. Naturally, there was beer.
  • Dec. 13th- We put the present symbol (my favorite of the bunch because of the houndstooth print) on the tree and wrapped up some gifts!
  • Dec. 14th- We put the hat symbol on the tree after we walked around at night looking at neighborhood lights. at 8:30 p.m. or so, it was still 40 degrees!
  • Dec. 15th- My second favorite symbol, the candy cane. We ate candy canes (how creative). I think I enjoyed some Candy Cane Lane tea too. How do I know? Cause I drink it about every day.
  • Dec. 16th- mittens. Man-go-round and I walked part of the way to work, and he even carried my food drive items for me. It was hella cold this morning. Hence the mittens!
  • Dec. 17th- We put the holly/ mistletoe symbol up because I spent the afternoon alternating between hot gluing crap and chasing man-go-round on with a mistletoe headband. There were holiday tunes involved.
  • Dec. 18th- We put up the wreath because I got some last minute greenery put up outside!
  • Dec. 19th- The snowflake symbolized that I taught man-go-round how to cut out a paper snowflake. We put them on the tree to decorate it.
  • Dec. 20th- For the cross symbol, we said prayers for both family members who are having a rough time, and for our human comrades in general.
  • Dec. 21st- Breakfast coffee/ tea in our new reindeer mugs- hence the hot toddy symbol. We also “clinked mugs” with good friends later for my birthday
  • Dec. 22nd- we’re putting up the snowman symbol because I want to make this tonight (I’ve spent all evening (okay, all week) on pinterest:  source

Okay, isn’t that the cutest? I’m sure mine won’t turn out nearly as well, but I’ll give it a shot!

What should I do with my remaining symbol (the sled) seeing as we still have no snow?! Any ideas? What fun things have you been doing in these last days before Christmas? Has the holiday cheer made you a little cuckoo too?

    Mersi,
I love all the holiday shenanigans you have been up to! That snowman is really awesome. I will be copying you tomorrow, and making some snowman marshmallows. I found a recipe today after making a mock one with Sylvia out of the little mallows I have been devouring with hot cocoa everyday. Since Sylv is obsessed with snowmen and santas right now, I figured I should make some fun food to spur her crazy!

I can’t remember, and I must have missed the post that explained it. Did you make the advent calendar? I just love it! Maybe next year you can help me make one or something?

You made me merrier with this post, I suppose that is your job with your name and all!

Yes, I did make the advent calendar- I started it way back in the beginning of November, and worked on it little by little. We might do different traditions next year!

Oh my gosh, this sounds like so much fun! You’ve been so creative with this!

I learned this year how to do paper snowflakes and I’ve hanged them all around my house (talking bout cheap decoration that looks nice!). And you know what, just before sitting down to read blogs I saw my pancake batter and thought “I’ll have pancakes on Christmas morning” and now that I’ve seen that snow man made with pancakes and mini marshmallows … yummm … making them for sure. Hope they turn up nice, hope yours too.

I’m eating a candy cane while reading your post.

  4. I’m sad we have no snow this year 🙁 so I’m not sure at you can do with the sled :-/ but these last few days in true fashion, I’m scrounging around for last min gifts!

  5. Gosh you have the best ideas! I love reading all the creative ideas that you have for all of your things to put on your tree!

Ummmm, if it hasn’t snowed that doesn’t mean that you can’t sled! Take it and ride it down some stars, or down a grassy knoll! Or pull it behind your car! See, so many options on how to sled without snow! Can you tell I live in a none snowy part of Cali?

  6. I made crostoli with my great-aunt and cousins on Tuesday. It’s an annual tradition that we make this flaky, fried Italian pastry. So good! My mom and I have also been baking for most of the past week and wrapped a lot of presents yesterday and today. I still have some shopping to do as I found out that one of my brothers got me something for Christmas and I decided that tonight I would get my other brother something as a “thank you” for driving me to the interviews that I’ve had and to wherever else I’ve needed to go when my mom couldn’t take me. For my “chauffeur,” however, I’m not sure what to get. Time to talk to my mom 😛

In case you don’t post in the next few days: Merry Christmas, Meri and man-go-round! 🙂

This post makes me want to live in your house! Do you have room for one more? Enjoy these last few days before The Big One!

  9. The pancake snowman is the cutest thing ever! Making that for sure!!

This is such a fun post. Happy belated birthday and I hope you have a lovely holiday, which it looks like you are already halfway to doing. Your snowflake is awesome. I’m a snowflake cutting maniac this time of year myself. I’ve been cutting them out at work and giving impromptu lessons at my desk to those who have forgotten the art.

Maybe you could go ice-skating instead of sledding. There’s gotta be an indoor rink around somewhere that is nice and icy.

    love those snowflake decorations!

In the Philippines we start to decorate homes with Christmas decors as early as October, the feeling it’s nice as the holiday season seems to feel much longer. Merry Christmas!

  13. Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and wishing you a very Blessed New Year!
