Project 2012- Week 2

As I sit watching the stars on the Golden Globes and envying Kate Winslet and Claire Danes’ fabulous black and white gowns,  I also am reflecting on this week’s progress for Project 2012.

We’ve branched out this week into some of the lesser loved categories from last week. There are now just a few categories we haven’t hit, and I’m pretty sure we’ll get there before long.

This week has been full of:

Arts/ Crafts/ Word projects: We first worked on a “word cloud” brainstorming activity together to try to come up with a name for my new biweekly column. We also collaborated to start making this retro garland for an upcoming party we’re having:

Play: The best example of playful activity this week was the sock/ laundry fight I initiated after work on Friday afternoon. At first man-go-round was sort of ignoring me, and then I realized he was just waiting with all of the ammo… It certainly released some work week tension!

Spirituality: Man-go-round and I took scraps of notebook paper and wrote down things or attitudes we intended to let go of/ get rid of. These were things like bad or negative attitudes, negative mental obstacles, and more. We shared some of these with others so that we could be held responsible for this attitude and not slip back into grumpiness and negativity.

Culture: We stepped out of our “How I met your Mother” and “Breaking Bad” netflix routine to try a British show- “Shameless.” It was pretty odd, but it was something different.

People/ Social: Braved the cold and snow to help friends celebrate their engagement with a fabulously thrown shindig at the cutest old fashioned bowling alley.

What did you all do this week or weekend? Do you have to make more of an effort to be social in the winter? Are you watching the Golden Globes?

Meri

p.s. editor’s note: Emily Blunt looks fantastic…

  1. I went through my closet last week and got rid of some unnecessary items that my mom and I kept over the years. I also tried to get rid of some stuff that I didn’t think I needed to keep but my mom caught me before I could recycle it all. I have more stuff to donate and also freed up shelf space to rearrange things and store my elementary ed books and binders at an easier-to-reach place (as opposed to the bottom shelf of a bookshelf that has storage boxes in front of it). So that was most of my week 🙂

We had three grandsons over to spend the night Saturday and today, our piano was tuned. Took a late afternoon drive. Sounds like your projects are progressing nicely. I love the garland.

Thanks! Its funny, I feel just as accomplished finishing a craft project that has been on the docket as I do cleaning the house or doing a non-preferred activity. That’s kind of weird and I never noticed it before.

We had barbecue this weekend, at last summer is really here in my place. I thought it would never come as it was raining all week.

  4. I spent much needed time with both my sister and Ryan. I dined out once, ordered in once and cooked a fabulous dinner with Ryan last night. We did our fair share of netflixing! But I also got some running in so it was all around a pretty fantastic weekend! I love your guys’ scrapbook paper idea.

LOVED the back of Claire Danes dress. So stunning! I am not sure why I sat through the entire awards show since I don’t watch movies haha. I was rally sad Ricky Gervais was so tame!

I definitely have to make more of an attempt to be social in the winter as I literally hibernate. I will try this year though.

  6. Ada says:

Ooo, do tell about your new biweekly column!

I kind of give up on being social during the winter. I give a social life a good whirl during the spring and fall (when I have time and it’s easy to travel), but pretty much give up on it in winter and summer. Kudos to you guys for braving the cold and getting out with people!

    • Meri says:

The column is about social interactions and relationships; what is expected, what should be upheld and what should be scrapped and isn’t necessary.I think it will evolve into different things though too 🙂

  7. Rebecca says:

I tend to turn into a bit of a homebody in the winter. It is just too tempting to stay home where it is warm!

  8. Cindy says:

gosh I am breaking ALL of my old molds this year!

    🙂

good for you and I am kind of dying to get my paints out but it needs to be sunnier and not so drab, plus more sun, better lighting.

this weekend me and wee one did a lot of nothing and had some kids over!
    YAY

  9. Simply Life says:

i didn’t watch the golden globes but woke-up this morning to see the highlights!
