Hi all! Who wants to help me with some party planning?
I’m hosting a retro fondue party this weekend, and I’d love some ideas! First, I’ll list what’s already planned (minus a few surprises that I don’t want certain people to see!) and THEN I’ll ask for help in the areas still needing some retro fabulousness!
So far:
- basic menu (bread and veggies in cheese fondue, strawberries and marshmallows in chocolate reese’s fondue, shrimp cocktail, sparkling wine, beer, and a kitschy dessert surprise)
- “costume” (my college relic go-go boots and a fabulous graphic print skirt from F21)
- seventies flower power buttons for partygoers to wear
- retro garland to hang from the light fixture
What I need help with:
- the soundtrack! I’m thinking “Brown Sugar,” “Brandy, you’re a fine girl,” “You make me feel like dancing,” and more. Funky 70s retro pop music ideas, anyone?
- More decor- I found this pinterest tutorial for homemade “lava lamps,” but I need ideas for creative watertight glassware as I have but one lonely mason jar in my possession as of now…
Once I have all these things prepared, I can just have a groovy time, baby! So help me out with your ideas!

I like apples with cheese fondue too.
Mmm that sounds good. I love apples and cheese together.
I’m a big fan of “Get down on it” by Kool and the Gang for 70s partying. Also, Goodwill and other thrift stores have great deals on wooden dishes and baskets, 70s-style earthiness would really capture the moment. I bet pinterest has some good ideas (but you may get sucked in and lose a few hours).
Kool and the Gang is totally the kind of music I had in mind. I should go look for some vintage decor!
Hahahahaha, I want to come to this party! Do you mind getting me a plane ticket to make it happen? Hahahahah.
The soundtrack seems like it’s started out well. You need some ABBA in there! Total 70’s fun! Or what about “Summer In The City” by The Lovin’ Spoonful? The Animals, Bowie, The Stones, The Beatles, Kool and the Gang, all that good stuff!
Oh I loooove ABBA, and you know there will definitely be Bowie and the Stones!
My favorite things in chocolate fondue are angel food cake, pineapple, pound cake, pretzels, etc
Mmmm, the fruit and angel food cake sound great!
So fun! You will have to let me know how it goes. I got a fondu pot for Christmas and can hardly wait to use it. I’m thinking on taking it to our girls’ night one Monday.
oh good luck with it! We’ve had ours like two years and realized we FINALLY need to bust it out haha!
okay, so you didn’t ask for food ideas, but I’m going to share anyway. My absolute favourite thing to dip in chocolate fondue is… cream cheese. I know it sounds weird, but just cut it into chunks (the bricks, not the tubs) and dip. It’s like cheesecake in your mouth. Everyone gives me weird looks when I bring it to fondues and everyone thanks me when they try it. 🙂 Hope you have a fun party!
I can see how that would be really good and creamy!
Definitely need some good disco music! Like “let’s dance the last dance” and of course the hustle!
I love a good disco tune!
oh gosh the food alone sounds perfect but I’m not the best party planner anymore so I haven’t the foggiest.
love the lava lamp idea though…walmart or thrift store might have smaller glass jars cheap??
have FUN!!!
I made the first lamp today- it was fun, you should try it with JJ!
I’m sure it’s going to be a fun party!
THanks! I can’t wait!
You need The Bee Gees! The Saturday Night Fever soundtrack – it’s perfect!
