The Need to Read

Okay, this is another one of those occasions where I admit I am late to a bandwagon, but I don’t even CARE because I’m so excited about the newest site I joined. Like facebook, twitter, Pinterest, and Tumblr before, I’m finding myself addicted to a fantastic website.

Goodreads.

I had actually been using pinterest and my local library’s website, along with my hundreds of little notebooks I keep all over the house and my bags (heard of a cat lady? I’m a crazy notebook lady) to keep track of books I wanted to read, authors I liked, books I had read and wanted to recommend, and more.

and this ain't even the half of it, sister

I had actually already heard of goodreads, as I had seen their blurbs on facebook from friends’ profiles. When I FINALLY logged on last week to see what all the fuss was about, I was not let down.

Why? This site lets you track books you’re reading, books you want to read, and books you’ve already read. As if that weren’t enough, if you rate books 1-5 stars or give them a review, they will recommend similar books for you to check out (similar to itunes’ “genius” feature.)

But the best part of the whole website? I no longer have to type keywords or do last, first with authors- the search engine just GETS IT. Worth every penny. Oh wait, goodreads is free.

So go sign up! I don’t work for them, but if they want to give me a job I wouldn’t say no…

And what about Munch Madness, you ask? What is the fate of the Sugarbowl? Well, last night I was in such a holiday valentine spirit that I threw a wildcard vote into the mix. There was love for all five choices, but in the end candy corn pulled into the lead. What does that mean? Well, that at some point I’ll throw candy corn into a special (maybe weekend) match to get a shot at the title and the GLORY.

Tonight, though, we go back to the original sweet 16 (or 32). Back to the wrong side of the tracks (for me, chocolate is fine, but sugar will win my heart any day).

Okay all you chocoholics:

Kit Kat vs. Twix

Vote away! Are you guys on Goodreads? What are you reading these days?

  1. Twix!!!! It’s one of my favorite chocolate candy bars!
I just finished “The Sun Also Rises” and am going to read “The Perks Of Being A Wallflower” for bookclub next. Have you read it? You should join in the book club, I’d love to see a review of yours! I’ve heard about Goodreads, but haven’t signed up for it yet, maybe I should change that?

  2. Kit-Kat vs. Twix? You’re killing me Smalls! OK, not really: when at the store and given the choice between the two, I ALWAYS pick Twix. I’m a sucker for chocolate and caramel together 🙂

I don’t read often enough to be on Goodreads. I have too much online stuff to do and too many TV shows to watch. I have a lot of unread books and magazines on my shelf to go through first. Plus, I’ve never really been much of a reviewer for stuff.

tough call..i love them both. but i’ll go with kit kat.

  4. Christine says:

Oh wow. I have been using Pinterest to track books I wanted to read! Gonna check out Goodreads.

  5. Natalie says:

I am on goodreads! It’s under this email. Let me know if you can’t find it. I recently finished reading the first 5 books of Game of Thrones. Pretty good!

  6. Ada says:

You’re making me choose between Kit-Kats and Twix? Really? I guess I’ve got to go with the Twix, since they involve caramel.

I haven’t ever logged onto Good Reads. I’m too afraid it will be just another website that sucks up all my time!

its nice because it can store info for you but you don’t “miss out” on anything like you might on twitter or facebook or pinterest if you don’t log on for a month or something.

  7. Errign says:

I don’t really like either, but Kit Kats are better!

  8. Cindy says:

    TWIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIX

    i’m not biased!

  9. Rebecca says:

Kit Kat. I think I signed up for Good Reads at some point, but I haven’t updated it in months.

  10. Kristina says:

    TWIX for sure.

And now I’m sad I forgot to come here yesterday! I would have totally voted for Jellybeans. 🙁

  11. Lisa says:

I’ve never heard of goodreads…but I’m intrigued and will definitely check it out. Thanks for sharing!

This decision is difficult. I think I have to go with Twix.

  12. Melanna says:

Ah! I missed yesterday too. Which means Jelly Beans would have had another vote. Sad day.

But for today i have to go with Twix. I love them both, but twix feels more special. And once I had a kitkat blizzard and it made the texture all weird so that kind of comes to mind when I think of them. And there are all sorts of pins on pinterest about how to make your own twix (but not kitkat). Obviously it’s better. 🙂

  13. I’m so glad you mentioned reading…I’ve been meaning to write you to tell you: I just finished Rules of Civility…I devoured it in about 4 days which is FAST considering most of my time is spent occupying a toddler. HA. I LOVE IT! Like, one of my favorites in the past year, for sure. So thank you for recommending it a while back.

Now I’ve started a new book called No Angel by Penny Vincenzi, and it is also very good. I need to sign up on GoodReads! 🙂

  14. Alyssa says:

Checking out goodreads as soon as I leave this comment. It will surely help give me ideas for my “read at least a book a month!” Thank you for sharing 🙂

  15. I signed up for GoodReads when it first came out? I never used it though. I kinda don’t read enough to make it worth it! Right now I’m reading a 700pg biography on Queen Elizabeth on my iPad. If there was one person in the world I wish I could meet- it would be her 😉

And I would pick twix. Kit Kat just doesn’t even compare!!!

    • Meri says:

i have a feeling certain times of year I”ll be way more involved with my goodreads account haha. Summertime comes and I’ll probably forget it for three months 🙂

  16. Kimberlee says:

Oh that sounds cool! For Christmas, my mom bought me this personal library collection where you can bookmark and stamp books. I think I’d like an online version better 🙂
