Raising the "bar"

Hey guys! I did some more playing around in Paint, and I’ve created a little graphic for Meri’s Munch Madness! If you want to post it on your blog I’d be happy to give you a shoutout in return. Spread the love my little foodies!

For those of you new around here, I’m doing a winner-takes-all tournament throughout the month, veggies vs. fruits, with a different competition and vote each day.

Yesterday’s winners are…

Broccoli and Figs!

Tonight’s match was a bit closer (20-8 Broccoli over Cauli, and 15-11 Figs over Dates) but still a pretty clear victory. I’m looking for a nail biter one of these days!

So, without further ado…. tonight’s vote is a veggie match.

Beets
vs.
Onions

So go ahead and vote!

And for tonight’s food frenzy… It’s all about the bar.
Nope, not the place you go to drink and get all stumbly, although that might be a fun post…

Nope, these kind of bars…

I looooove these things…

pretty sure “s’more” and “spooky s’more” are identical…

soyjoy!

My favorite bars in life…

So I thought I’d do kind of a “top six list” of my favorite bars. Some I like for a quick snack, some I eat for the protein, and some I pretty much snarf down as dessert (I’m talking to you, Clif Kids bars…)

1. Go Raw (Banana Bread flavor)- These are good and chewy, not too sweet, and have a short short short nutrition label. The only downside is the price, which is steep when they aren’t on sale.

2. Clif Kids Z-bars (favorite flavors are Blueberry, which I’ve only found in Arizona, and s’more. The only flavor I don’t really care for is the Peanut Butter)- These bars are pure dessert. I eat them every night.

3. Kashi Go-Lean Crunch (Chocolate Caramel Flavor)- These are really tasty and have lots of protein. Downside? Sometimes my jaw hurts after I eat them, they really are chewy.

4. Luna (Cinnamon Vanilla Raisin flavor)- These are tasty, have a decent amount of energy in them, and also some vitamins and protein going for them. Downside? Sometimes they don’t feel like anything special.

5. Soyjoy (Strawberry, Blueberry, Berry)- I like these three flavors of what I call the “scone bar.” Tasty, but sort of an overpriced cookie, again.

6. Gnu Flavor and Fiber (Cinnamon Raisin and Banana Walnut)- Again, I’m a sucker for anything raisin or banana flavored. These are reeeaaaally chewy, which I love, and have a lot of fiber, which is good for my genetic digestive construct. ahem. Let’s make fiber cool again people!

Do you guys like bars? Do you eat them for quick energy, as a snack, or as a dessert? Are there ones you don’t like? Am I the only jerk who thinks Larabars are overrated?

And go ahead and vote!!!

    Beets and Onions!

  2. Terri says:

How did I miss a day? Beet greens with baby beets would be my favorites, but I do love me a baked or carmelized onion.

  3. Ashly@Moon Walk says:

    Onions!

  4. Every Little Thing says:

Oh man, definitely onions. We're BFF's.

  5. Stephanie says:

Love the graphic! Bravo! I'm kind of thinking of boycotting your blog now that dates have lost. I can be kind of a sore loser. But I'll put on my big girl panties and vote on this one. OK, this is kind of a hard one. I love a crunchy raw beet, but I never cook without onions. I guess I'll have to vote for onions.

(Side story: when I was a kid I loooooved my mom's pickled beets. I ate so many one time that I peed red and my mom called the doctor in a panic. Ha!)

  6. Minnesota Maven says:

Well since I have an undying hate of beets, I'm going with the onions! I love to cook with them, they flavor up anything!

  7. lesley lifting life says:

That's such a tough one!! I think onions win just because I use them WAY more often than beets.

  8. J3nn (Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says:

I have lots of favorite snack bars: Luna, GoRaw, KIND, Raw Revolution, and Zbars.

I vote onions. I love them cooked and raw and cooking wouldn't be the same without them. Beets I eat a few times a year at most; onions almost every day.

  9. Meri says:

Stephanie, if it makes you feel any better, my heart was slightly broken that cauliflower lost to nasty broccoli…

  10. emma. says:

    Beets! Cold beet soup…… YUM!

When I'm not feeding Olive & typing with one hand I'll post your graphic at an owl's nest. 🙂

This Greek girl likes her some onions!

  15. Katherina says:

Onions!!! I think it's something quite spanish… to put onion just into every sauce – I love it!

  16. TexaGermaNadian says:

Onions! I could eat them raw with every meal (if I wanted to have the worst breath in the history of bad breaths, ha)

  17. cyclicalunemployment says:

looovvvvee this post and all the pictures and voting and I just want to touch everything like a kid in the jewelry department at Macys. I LOVE beets but do have to say that baked onions (like a baked potato) are under-rated and under-utilized.

I also NIX every clif, kashi and soyjoy bar on the market. no. GNU are good and I've never tried the Go Raw so I nominate those two to be the winners (all else are glorified candy bars; I hate to say it).

  18. ELC says:

Beets, totally. I can't stand onions!

  19. Heather Iacobacci-Miller says:

I love the Kashi bars and Clif bars. Never had the Z ones, but love the energy and crunchy ones.

  20. Laura says:

I've never heard of Go Raw bars but I'll have to try them. I love me some Luna and Clif bars but the Larabar has never been that exciting to me either. And as for the veggies, I'd have to go with onions!

  21. Robin says:

    onions!!!!!!!!!!

  22. errign says:

Definitely onions as I hate beets!

I like Luna Bars, Z-Bars, Raw Revolution Bars, and prana bars!

  23. Stephanie says:

    Onions!!

  24. Pop Champagne says:

lol well I love onions, a lot more than beets! except lately my tenant has been cooking canned salmon with onions and it stinks up the entire house even with the windows opened and the fan on. so hmmm… I'd haev to go with beets!

  25. Rebecca says:

I cannot stand onions, so beets it is.

  26. Bonnie says:

I hate both!!!! I guess I would go with beets if I HAD to choose.

beets for juicing and onions for cookin!!

  29. Tatiana says:

beets! I've never had any of those bars. I'm going to have to try some now 🙂

  30. Christine says:

    Onions!

And I love Luna bars. I used to eat just the regular Clif bars when I needed energy/protein for a run, but I got so sick of them. Funny that Luna bars are made by the same company yet I like them so much better!

  31. Alyssa says:

Onions! Thought I quite enjoy beets.
    Can I vote for both ? 🙂

I eat Clif bars sometimes. I used to eat the Kashi bars, but they hurt my jaw too much. I only ever eat the Clif bars if Im somewhere I absolutely cannot stop to grab a bite to eat. I am going to try the Luna bars, since they seem to have a better taste/following?

  32. Brittany H. says:

This is tough…but I'm going with the onions because I use them more than beets.

Have you tried the Bumble Bar?! It's my personal favorite!

    Onions onions onions!

I used to HATE them and picked them out of EVERYTHING, then one day I started liking them. It was the weirdest thing!

Have you tried Cliff bar's Brownie bar? Thats my fave…YUM!

  34. Melanna says:

Onions for sure. Even better if they're caramelized. I prefer them cooked (use them all the time) to raw (avoid it at all costs).

  35. Jennifer says:

    ONIONS!!!! <3

I like bars but not the price tag!!!! I had a pure bar last week and was in a YUM coma! =)

Definitely onions. I put them in almost all meals, and if a recipe calls for them I almost always use more than I'm supposed to 🙂
