Weathering the Storm

Happy July Friends!

I have finally joined Twitter. Well, for real this time. A few years back when pretty much no one was on twitter, I signed up. Then, since no one was on it that I knew, I never really looked at it again. So now, I sign up for real, but feel tremendously behind. If you’re all atwitter yourself- let me know or be my FOLLOWER so I feel important!

My name is @merigoesround. Mom, you can disregard this- I don’t think you’d like twitter yet. Maybe in a few years.

Speaking of my mom, they had a horrible storm this evening. They lost three trees and have a basement full of water again. This ridiculous weather has me ranting and raving…

A new blog month is born, people… get ready. Meri Rants and Raves ALL MONTH LONG. Things I love, things I hate, and things I just don’t understand. I invite commiseration, explanation, and opinions galore. Some days I will be full of love for a product or person or phenemenon… (and by the way, if you want to have a little rant of your own about the fact that I frequently reference myself in the third person like a pretentious d-bag, I can take it).

and some days, like today, you’re gonna hear about the S&$# storms I see in the world. Or just the thunderstorms I guess.

For example, yesterday, it was 98 degrees and rising (Does Nick Lachey have that copywrited?) and the sky looked like this:

Incredible, right? Then today, it was bright and sunny and hotter than sin again. It was so bright that you can’t even see the lemonade in the cup that I bought walking home from work:

and then a few hours later, the sky turned to this before it opened up into pure weather garbage and dropped 25 degrees, destroying everything in the way again:

This weather makes a mockery of the meteorologists. It makes planning ahead for anything simply impossible. I would love to take days off this summer to spend time with friends and family- but how am I to plan a hot air balloon ride or a day of berry picking a month in advance when the weather could be hailing meatballs and pancakes by then for all I know?

I don’t mind a little rain. I enjoy it, actually, as you can see in some of my recent posts. But I don’t like hearing about North Minneapolis getting ravaged by tornados. I don’t like it so hot that I can’t even walk to the store without worrying about dehydration. And I really don’t like my parents’ basement full of water. Again.

So Mr. Sun… how about you play nice for a couple of days? There’s been some tragedy in my family today and I think we could all use a little bit of a break, weather-wise.

I now open it up to all of you: what rants and raves do you have that you’d like me to cover? I have some ideas already- products I want to rave about, books I love, and things that make me nutbags crazy. But I always have room for more ideas!

Cheers, and stay safe in this crazy El Nino Apocolypse…

Meri

I’ll see you on Twitter lady! This weather basically sucks. I’m hoping for improvements today! Love that you’re the kind of person who buys lemonade at sidewalk stands!

Sweet. Finally someone i know who can figure out twitter and explain to me the appeal. I mean, I know a few people on twitter but they are all of the super annoying variety so subsequently I associate twitter with only these types of people . I will try to describe. They usually have thousands of fb friends but a handful actual friends. They use four square to slyly let you know they only hang at the hippest locales. They’re statuses/twits say all kinds of different clever things but always translate to just one sentiment…. ” Look at me, look at me… I’m awesome!”. I’m sure this isn’t everybody though so I’m still curious to see what normal people use this for!

I know what you mean about the weather. We were at a wedding on Saturday–sweating through our formal clothes. By evening, when it came time to dance, the thunder and lightning put an end to that. I’m going to follow you on Twitter!

  12. yay! I’m following you now! I’m @ap5719 🙂
