Weekend Update

Yes, further reading of Bossypants (finally!) has inspired me to do a little SNL love later on in today’s post. But first- it is time to honor Make My List Monday, where I share my plans and to-do list for the week and invite all of you to do the same!

How did I do this week? Well, pretty well, I think! Highlights!

-Spending quality time outside now that it’s not insanely hot!

-pedicure and wine spa party for my dear sister! Can you guess which toes are mine?

-family gathering at Luci

-BBQ for my visiting bestest friend. (With a most excellent host, if he’s reading this! Thanks sir!)

-Celebrating 5 year anniversary with man-go-round at Oceannaire with some whiskey (something old) escargot (something new, for me…), free flaming dessert (baked alaska, another new one for me), toasts, and good company.

-spending time schmoozing/ travel planning with my momma

-Dollar store finds for my magical “golden snitch fairy” costume for niece’s party. Score!

-More “ready to wear” shopping finds via The Gap and F21 (those jeans? 6 dollars, thank you…)

and for THIS WEEK:

1. Try this guy out: (I think I heard about this from Errign- thanks for the recommendation full of 10 grams of protein!)

2. Magical Birthday Party (surely to be a highlight)

3. Berry picking?  (I need to research whether any are still available this time of year…)

4. Writing. No excuses.

5. Practice working in photoshop on a project related to this:

6. Burn CD for road trip, involving oldies, Adele, and No Doubt

7. Read (Bossypants will be finished before the end of time, I know this because I cranked out another 80 pages in about a half hour today. Not a difficult read!)

8. Turn the mango I bought today into “mango chips.”

9. Enjoy a weekday off (well, the part where I’m not at the doctor, anyway)

10. Library, obviously (although recently I’ve started going to both Mpls and St. Paul, rendering things a bit crazy as I try to keep two separate accounts afloat. Somebody stop me).

And now, the promised land. I can’t begin to get into how much I love Saturday Night Live, but after spending some quality time with Bossypants tonight, and in the spirit of TV month, I’ll give you a few of my favorites to check out if you haven’t seen them yet:

Meri’s Random Saturday Night Live Favorites:

1. Goulet. “Oh. A bighorn!”

2. Oops I crapped my pants. I think I spent 3 entire years of my childhood laughing over this one

3. D$%# in a box. Okay, so its new, its crass, and its not particularly clever. But on the plus side, Justin Timberlake, one of the most surprisingly funny digital shorts yet, and it set the bar pretty high for future digital shorts.

4. Chris Farley as “el nino.” Which is Spanish for… The Nino.

5. Schmitt’s Gay brought to my attention just last week by a coworker. Best part? when the beer just flies out of the pool out of sheer awesomeness.

6. Celebrity Jeopardy “Threeve”

7. King Tut still has me laughing every time

8. Miley Cyrus “Pretty Cool” show. Based almost exclusively for my glee at turning around my hatred of miley cyrus into liking her because her existence provides the material for this skit.

9. The Spartan Cheerleaders

10. “Can you catch a falling star without burning your hand? No! Such is MANGO.”

  1. My schedule is coaching new kids. Working on new activities for the kids I’m coaching already, and getting back on an exercise routine.

  2. Stephanie says:

I have a soft spot in my heart for The Continental. Wowie. wow. wow. wow.

  3. Klaudia B. says:

    fantastic post!

    kisses,
    Klaudia B.

  4. Taco, burrito, what’s coming out of your speedo?! Man, we used to love the cheerleaders. Would even film skits of us doing our own. Losers! One of my all time favorites (obvs besides Schmidts Gay, hilarious!) is the one with Chris Farley and Adam Sandler called Zagats. So random, but gets me in the giggles everytime. Youtube it if you are unfamiliar. Knowing that we have the same sick sense of humor 🙂 you will love it!

    • Meri says:

I’m not sure I’ve seen Zagats- although I’ve seen the majority of the Chris Farley and Chris Rock ones, I missed a lot of ones with Adam Sandler somehow. I’ve got some work to do! Thanks for the recommendation haha!
Oh, and when we were in grade school we did a similar thing where we wrote our own skits and filmed them and called it “Sunday Night Live” (I guess we probably did it on Sunday nights?) It was pretty bizarre I’m remembering…

  5. Stephanie says:

The funniest Saturday Night Live skit I’ve ever seen was Jason Priestly figure skating at the Olympics. I don’t know why…but I still laugh when I think about that one!

  6. I don’t even know where to begin. Mango chips? Yum! Fave SNL skit? Britney Spears on “Morning Latte.” Five years? Congrats!

Finally…I want to be a golden snitch fairy, too.

    • Meri says:

I’ve been on a major fruit drying/ fruit chip making spree this summer, completely inspired by Junia’s blog. I’ve done nectarines, pluots, apples, and bananas. Now I want to do tomatoes, mangoes, and either cherries or some sort of berries. So far, so good!

  7. Tina Fey is so hilarious-can’t believe she just had another baby!

  8. Linz says:

Bobby Moynihan as Mark Payne is one of my all time faves… its pretty cool!

  9. let me know how those mango chips turn out! i want to go berry picking too. maybe blueberries :D. i need to make some lists. i have a couple things that i don’t ever get done. hahaha.

  10. Rebecca says:

I’ve never watched much SNL, but I do like Tina Fey because of 30 Rock.

  11. camylla says:

hahahhaha this is such a funny and cute post! SNL is awesome. Sounds like you had a great weekend.

Love your blog, follow each other?

    Lots of love,

  12. Errign says:

Yay Mix1 – that’s one of my favorite flavors. I think they taste pretty awesome, but beware because sometimes they’re VERY full – like to the brim!

  13. Bonnie says:

YOU CANNOT HAVE THE MANGO. *slap*
That was Chris Kattan’s finest work.

I’m totally in love with that SNL time period. Celebrity Jeopard almost always made me crap my pants, as did “Oops, I Crapped My Pants.” (You had to know where I was going with that.) Totally brilliant.

  14. I’ve always wanted to go berry picking but I dont live by a place where that’s available lol, it seems so fun though

  15. Tatiana says:

It sounds like your weekend was crazy busy! Pedicures with the girls? That’s got to be one of my all times fave activities 🙂
Happy 5 happy yrs! Here’s to many more!
And did you say it was your birthday? Happy birthday too!

  16. OMG, I loved it when Maya Rudolph played this teen girl who had a crush on Jimmy Fallon. She and Rachel Dratch, who was playing a teen boy named Sheldon, had their own school tv show. It was hilarious!

  17. Hahaha! I totally remember some of those SNL skits. My favorite SNL season was the late 90s/early 2000s with Will Ferrell, Maya Rudolph, Rachel Dratch, etc. I remember every Saturday night in high school, staying up late so I could laugh hysterically. I feel like SNL doesn’t have that same hilariousness anymore. I mean, it’s good and all, but there’s definitely that magic missing…

My favorite current sketch is the “Cuz this here is real!” jail scene, where the prisoner yells at the stupid boys who keep getting into trouble and telling them about stuff that actually happened in movies. Lol.

I also really love the “New York’s Hottest Club is….” sketch during the Weekend Update. 😛

Anyway, it sounds like you have an awesome week planned. Mine is going to be filled with Katy Perry (concert Wednesday night, YAY!) and celebrating my parents’ 30th anniversary. So not too dull. 😉

I hope you are having a great Monday! xoxo

    • Meri says:

Oh haha- You mean Stefan? That’s one of our favorites too, and the Julian Assange interpretation is pretty funny too. Bill Heder is my current fave. And maybe Andy Samberg. Oh and Kristen Wiig. I actually think the current cast is pretty decent!

  18. Lisa says:

Gosh, I love lists! I’m going to make one of my own once I peel my eyes away from the computer!

I’d say the toes on the left side are yours.

Never had escargot or baked alaska–what the heck am I waiting for?!

I never watched a lot of SNL, but the @#$% in a box was probably the one I remember most…

    • Meri says:

      haha- its the red toes.
The baked alaska was a total surprise, I actually don’t really like ice cream but since it was there and so good I ate the whole dang thing and part of the boyfriend’s half too haha

  19. Pedis and wine sound like a great weekend to me! I love Baked Alaska! I’ve only had it on cruises though, it seems like the signature dessert. I need to try making it myself one day.

  20. Lynn says:

Great list! Berry picking sounds fun. Dance classes, and getting my home organized are on my to do list this week.

I haven’t shared my list with you but I can check off one thing that I accomplished today–I got a new camera! Yeh! I also went shopping for Katie’s birthday and got some supplies for the baby birthday bash this weekend.

  22. Jasmine says:

    Golden Snitch Fairy? AWESOME!!!
