…and a partridge in a Mer tree…

Happy Friday! Praise BE that its the weekend! This week was rough, and in need of a little humor and warmth around here for me. I thought I’d share a little Advent Calendar antics from the last few days:

Today was the Santa hat symbol. I deemed that to be worthy of a reading of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” under blanket cover after work. Man-go-round supplied his own rhymes to the end of several stanzas. I wish I could recreate it, but I was too busy appreciating the illustrations, which I just adore:

the Grinch, himself, carving the roast beast!

Yesterday, after operation Star Fail (more on that another day), I decided that since we had already read/ sung in falsetto “the 12 days of Christmas” as illustrated by Jan Brett, that we should commit to the bird symbol and write our OWN 12 days of Christmas, peppered with items related to present or past holiday seasons between Man-go-round and I. Some jokes you guys might know, some are likely only funny to us. Nonetheless, here it is in all its glory:

On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me…

12 cans of ice house

11 trips to mailbox (I really really like snail mail)

10 squirrel squatters (the last home, not this one…)

9 Christmas cookies (more like 9000)

8 ice scrapers

7 broken shovels (you may recall my ordeal from last winter)

6 (hundred) snowflakes (I like to craft… a lot…)

5 bowwwllls of jellloooooo

4 cardinals

3 Christmas sticks (I could never attempt to explain this, its far too stupid for the general public to be exposed to)

2 Holly Bollies (for you, dad)

and ONE MORE MERI *&%#-mas (uh, man-go-round’s name is anonymous)

So, I have to explain that it is VERY much ingrained in my genetic coding to make cheesy versions of songs with their own lyrics. Have you guys ever done this before? Oh, and in the book I had it said it was “colly birds,” not “calling birds” like I had always thought. Have you guys ever heard of this? Is the book crazy or am I?

What would be included in your own personal “12 days of Christmas,” (or winter, or Hannukah, etc.)

Meri
