Bippity Boppity BoomBox

On this sunny Saturday afternoon, Man-go-round and I went on a little tour of NE Minneapolis. East Side Food Co-op, Holy Land, Surdyk’s, Library. If I could spend every errand run at these places, I’d be a happy gal.

With Prosecco and magazines balanced in my arms and a ginger chew ‘tween my teeth, I checked the mail. As hoped, it was a (very) good mail day- real mail with a bit of bulk. I knew it was gonna be good…

Fairy Godmother, Smee, Judy Jetson

Flounder, Cheshire Cat, Chip

When my sister and I were younger, we used to spend hours drawing “copies” of pictures from Disney. Sometimes we tried to do tracings, sometimes we freehanded. This was not limited to Disney, but these are the pictures she sent to me today.

Fairly aware that we used to do a lot of sort of “odd” things, my sister frequently reminds me of things we did together that I had completely forgotten about. Sending these to me totally upped the ante- I’m going to have to go through my old stuff and find some notes or stories we wrote to each other and surprise her with her very own “awesome mail day.”

In the spirit of the Wonderful World of Disney, I’m going to put all current hostile questionable feelings toward the Disney empire aside, and instead pay musical tribute to the glory days of Disney, a.k.a the 80s, a.k.a my childhood. ahem.

Disney songs I love to dance and sing to:
-“Under the Sea”- The Little Mermaid
-“Hakuna Matata”- The Lion King
-“Le Poissons”- The Little Mermaid
-“I wanna be like you”- The Jungle Book
-“Everybody wants to be a cat”- The Aristocats (although I don’t, in fact, want anything to do with a cat)

Disney songs I animatedly sing my heart out to in the interest of getting attention from loved ones:
-“Be Our Guest”- Beauty and the Beast
-“Caterpillar song”- Alice in Wonderland (maybe more so in college than when I was young…)
-“Savages” (to the lyrics of “radishes”)- Pocahantas
-“A whole new world”- Aladdin ( always need a partner in crime for this one)
-“Part of your world”- The Little Mermaid
-“Beauty and the Beast” (except I sing in a booming male “beast” voice, not the Angela Lansbury pansy version…

Best Disney Villain songs:
-“Poor Unfortunate Souls”- The Little Mermaid
-“Be prepared”- The Lion King (because I used to call the aforementioned sister “Scar”)
-“Cruella Deville”- 101 Dalmations
-“My what a guy, Gaston”- Beauty and the Beast (I like the part where he picks up the entire bench of triplets with one bulging bicep. Gaston is inarguably hot despite his unfortunate narcissistic personality disorder, lack of conscious.)

Disney songs I can’t bloody tolerate
-“Never had a friend like me”- Aladdin
-“Just around the Riverbend”- Pocahantas
-“Can you feel the love tonight”- The Lion King
-“I’m wishing”- Snow White (her falsetto makes me murderous)
-“You’ll be in my heart”- Tarzan (this one might take the cake for absolute worst)

Well, that’s my list. How do you guys feel about Disney? Love it? Hate it? Hate to love it/ Love to hate it? Even if you’re a hater, is there a song you kind of love?

Just call me the Little “Mer”Maid 🙂
Peace!
