No, its not a word. Yes, I’m using it anyway.
I’d like to move full speed ahead on tonight’s post. It’s about something I hold very dear to my heart. A list that was hard to write as there are so many that I love. And so many I have yet to try…
So obviously I’m not a foodie blogger and these pictures aren’t staged well. Shoot me. My love for the “food group” shall overcome my inferior photography and lighting. Promise.
I’m linking up with Jenn’s weekly “What I ate Wednesday” feature again, and making it “Condiments I will eat on Wednesday.”
I shall call it:
“Condi-meri-ment!”
1. Salsa. Despite my love for some of the following, NOTHING tops salsa for me. On a tortilla with cheese for a late night wrap, with chips, on top of veggies, as a mini-pizza sauce (yes, I do this. and no, I’m not in college anymore. And no, I’m not ashamed).
I make my own and its very chunky. I buy it at the store fresh or canned. I try it at farmer’s markets, I enjoy it at parties, and I eat it like its my job.
Favorites: Green Mountain Gringo, La Victoria, Newman’s own Garden Style, and any chunky salsa with lots of onions.
2. Mustard. Of course this is a very, very, very closer runner up. It lost only because I didn’t like it until I was about 23. I ate it about never until the past few years, now I am MAKING UP FOR LOST TIME! I like it on noodles or veggies with nooch, I like it with pretzels or veggies for a snack, I like it on veggie burgers and french fries.
I even made my own a few times. It was dang spicy but very satisfying.
Favorite: Inglehoffer sweet hot mustard. Bonus? You can save the little jars to put nuts in for a snack in your purse!
3. Hummus- You can make your own, and flavor it with ANYTHING! I mean anything! Bloggers are making dessert hummuses, TJ’s has three layers of it, I’ve made big batches to freeze…
On crackers, on sandwiches, on veggies, as a cold salad base… and protein! winning…
4. Ketchup- Notoriously, a few years ago I came home with friends after a night of “celebrating” and proceeded as usual to the kitchen for a late night snack. I returned to the living room with said snack and thought nothing of it. Later, I would be teased mercilessly by said friends for what they deemed was a “ketchup sandwich” of tortilla +ketchup. Gross. Or maybe not…
I do love ketchup though. Homemade was very fun, maybe even more fun than the homemade mustard! I liked that I could control the sugar and salt.
5. Jelly- Yes, I need to ration out jelly and remind myself that it is not to be eaten with a spoon while the bread is toasting. Strawberry jelly. Grape jelly. Apricot, date, and fig jellies. Mango jelly. Pepper jelly! Apple butter, mango butter, pumpkin butter.
Homemade jellies and jams! I’ve only made enough of this to qualify as sauce, and eaten it immediately, as canning scares me.
The only loser I’ve ever had? Lime curd. Ewwww! I thank my mom for buying it to try, but it was not what I was expecting and Meri no likey.
Runners up: Hot sauce, Nut butters, honey, barbecue sauce, chutney, tahini, wasabi, soy sauce, tzatziki, olive oil
and now for some
“Disappoint-condi-ments” …
-maple syrup- it has to be reaaaaaly good or it makes me gag
-sour cream. meh.
-mayo- never. ever. ever! I do eat miracle whip on occasion though. I like the tangy zip.
-salad dressing- well, I don’t like lettuce, so I suppose that explains why I have no need for the dressing.
-butter- only should be used for baking. Never on vegetables or bread. yuck.
What condiments do you people love? Ones you hate? Ones you’ve never tried?
…ones I should try???
Meri
