Instant Winner Dinner

Quick check in tonight! We went to a BBQ and there was food for quintuple the amount of people there. So you might say there was a hefty grocery bill between the 7 of us… and when discussing said grocery store, our gracious hosts pulled these babies out:

Rainbow Foods’ Monopoly sweepstakes/ game. Yes, we are incredibly nerdy and spend our evenings doing things like this:

Wheeee! Matching tickets, hoping to subsidize our next grocery bill or win a whole car! I sort of feel like trailer trash doing this, but I have to say its also kind of fun too. Plus, I have the excuse to go buy groceries all of the time…

So wish us luck! I seem to be on a stream of giveaway wins lately, so who knows? I sure could use a new car or a house or even just a few free groceries!

What about you guys- do you bother with scratch tickets, surveys for giveaways, etc? Or do you think they are a waste of time?

Anyone else out there playing “Monopoly?”

  1. Oh, I never do this stuff. mainly because I never won any contests growing up… so I don’t have enough confidence in winning to try winning random things as an adult.

I’m sure if people won random little things as a kid, they’d feel more comfy doing it now… since its like, “Well, it happened when I was a kid… so why not now?”

I figure if I don’t mind doing something, and its free, why not? I was just eating oatmeal and watching Weeds anyway… might as well mark off a few tickets, right? especially in this economy!

  2. I worked at McDonalds for quite some time and every year the Monopoly thing would come out- people would go INSANE for those stupid stickers. No one ever won the whole game- we were never notified if anyone in the country did or anything. So I think it’s all a ploy. But you do end up winning some free sandwiches/fries etc. So there’s that! 🙂

I never play those things though or enter giveaways. Although when I was young, my grandma won a fishing boat from our local radio station!

    • Meri says:

haha- for me I think its the combination of the actual prize and also playing the stupid “game.” Since we were kind of nerding out with it the first time we got back from the store with our tickets, it has escalated in excitement. I’m pretty sure we won’t win anything, though, but its still kind of silly and fun.

I’ve not encountered this Monopoly promotion in my neighborhood…and rarely participate in promotions like this.

    • Meri says:

I sometimes wonder how many people are actually signing up for things. On facebook if you enter things at least you know if 500,000 people have entered or something- not worth it!

i love a giveaway or contest. you never know if you’ll win. and i think once you do win it’s kinda addicting. and it makes me wanna keep entering. i think the first time i had a taste was with one of my magazines. i entered and won this great set of facial products and after that i kept entering. i’ve also won a set of nail polish. and doing blogs now, i’ve actually won a few times and it’s just such a thrill! almost as much fun as shopping and getting a really great deal. wait, maybe better 🙂

Oh man, I must have won about 25 giveaways so far (or more?) since I started blogging last November. It is unbelievable sometimes- like right now I’m waiting for 3 things to come in the mail? I’m not complaining!

  5. oomph. says:

re your comment: yeah i’m also surprised that one didn’t create more of a sensation on the blogosphere.

  7. Lyddiegal says:

good luck! i hope you walk away a big winner!

  8. have u tried playing monopoly deal? its like monopoly board game with playing cards!

    • Meri says:

No but that sounds like fun! I like some of the new versions of classic board games that have come out- like Sorry Sliders and Candyland game for toddlers with the little shape coins in the chute…

  9. simplychic08 says:

i hope your winning streak continues. good luck 🙂

i’m not particularly lucky so i normally don’t bother with trying to win anything :-/

  10. I am so out of the loop on everything, what is this?!? If it is anything like the Mikky D’s game, I’m in! Haha. Used to do scratch off tickets, and would win pretty often, but I am too cheap now, lol. And still bitter I didn’t win the sweet sweet prize below 😉

    • Meri says:

Well every time you shop there you get tickets (based on certain items or amount of food you get) and then you match the little pieces to the game board, and if you get four in a color category you win the prize on that “card.” And each ticket has a coupon on it too 🙂

  12. I love anything that gives you a chance to win- i definitely love playing monopoly sweepstakes… i remember when i would play the McDonald’s one as a kid…maybe not the healthiest game to play but hey it was still fun!

    xoxo <3

    • Meri says:

I swear I’m more excited about the “matching” portion of the game than the prospect of actually winning… sad sad state of events over here 🙂

  13. I think scratch tickets are fun. You never know when a random one will payoff with a fun $100!

    • Meri says:

I’ve never bought a lotto or scratch ticket but the boyfriend tells me every time I win something that I should, and tries to ask if I have favorite numbers, etc….
