Brace(let) Yourself

Good evening you charming people you! I’ve been spending the evening hemming and hawing over my state tax return (after yesterday’s federal return success I was maybe a bit overconfident) and baking hodgepodge cookies (recipe will be posted another day soon, I’m too lazy to upload pics right now…) but the time has come for something else Made by Meri!

Today’s star could be a gift for a special kid in your life, a funky accessory for yourself, or just a way to kill time and practice some simple kitchen chemistry. Piqued your interest yet?

BRACE YOURSELF!

Toothbrush Bracelet

The “recipe” for this one is incredibly simple.

1. Take a toothbrush (used, please… this is a recycling project above all else…) If you have oral-b that’s the kind I’ve used. I think only certain types of plastic would work for this.

2. Bring some water to boil in a saucepan. You’ll probably need a tongs too, or some waterproof oven mitts or similar tools (anything to keep from scalding yourself)

3. Boil that toothbrush like it’s stone soup. After a few minutes, it will soften and become more pliable. This is when you spastically yank out the bristles, bend the toothbrush to the desired shape, and try not to hurt yourself.

4. Let cool

That’s it, people. The one issue is that you have to make it big enough to fit over your hand. It will bend a tiny bit, but it occasionally will hurt a teeny bit to cram on your hand. Lucky for me, I have hands and wrists once described by some idiot as “tiny little rat paws,” so I can fairly easily get these on. If they don’t fit, then give ’em to a kid!

And now, for your viewing pleasure, I give you a series of pics not yet shared from our recent LA trip! Nighty night!
Meri
