When a problem comes along.. .you must dip it… dip it good!
I won’t flash back to my childhood dance routine to Devo’s “whip it” with my best friend just now, but if you were present for one of the performances, consider yourself very lucky.
I digress. I wanted to share some of the details and outcomes from our retro fondue party for those of you with a love of a good party theme, those who love all things retro, or those who just love to “dip it goooood!”
First up, decor and set up:

and then we move onto the music:
- You make me feel like dancing (Leo Sayer)
- Sugar Sugar (the Archies)
- Brown Sugar (The Rolling Stones)
- Upside Down (Diana Ross)
- Got to Give it Up (Marvin Gaye)
- You Sexy Thing (Hot Chocolate)
- You Should Be Dancing (Bee Gees)
- Shakin’ All Over (The Guess Who)
- Everybody’s a Star (The Kinks)
and I suppose I should show you some of the “fondue how-to” (if your idea of fondue is to melt the easiest things possible)

…and then we let the good times roll, performing lava lamp science experiments and enjoying the good company!

So party on, people!
What did you do this weekend? What are some of your favorite party themes (so I can start planning the next soiree…)?
Cheers!
Meri

It looks so fun. Those garlands turned out really well. Cute decorating! I don’t do too many parties, but the murder mystery dinner party I attended in December was definitely a good time!
I’ve always wanted to go to a murder mystery party, but never have! maybe next time…
We never have parties!
I wish we did.
And if we did, I would do a black n white themed party, or fags n fairy’s, or brides n grooms… cos you never get to wear fancy stuff often!
Gosh, there are millions of ideas for a party really!
Its been a while since I threw a fancy party, that sounds fun!
Having attended the fabulous retro party I can attest that the decorations and all around decor were/was funky, fun and far-out. The food was also delicious and good looking! The hosts were pretty darn good looking too! It was such a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon and party on for Dad’s and my birthday. Thanks for all the creativity and work you put in to making it so delightful, oh little hostess with the mostest! Love, Mom
well you were the inspiration for the party, and I’m so happy you came and made it so special! I love you!
Suddenly I crave for fondue!
it is addicting!
OMG, this looks like it was an amazing party! What a fun theme and everything. Those marshmellows look to good for words!
they are really good, and they are in-between mini and jumbo size, too which I like
Yummm! Fondue! It’s been a while since I had them! I bought a fondue set just to use for one of my birthdays parties (the one with the Hollywood theme) that I used in the VIP area, with chocolate fondue and marshmallows, banana and strawberries. Yummm! I want to dip it now, dip it real good.
sounds like we had a pretty similar dessert fondue! I just used melted reeses cups, pretty easy haha!
I worked on Saturday and had yesterday off to chill and decompress…nothing special.
that sounds very nice! I’ll take one of those Sundays, please!
What an amazing party theme idea! I just love the decorations. The only negative I’m seeing is that I wasn’t there. 🙂
Ahhhhh, I totally decorate my bathroom mirror, too! Mr. A thinks I am crazy.

WOW! This is the coolest party idea ever!! 🙂 I especially love the playlist.
We are going to a dinner party (mad men/swinging 60’s theme) this Friday and I’m sooo excited!!!
we went to a holiday mad men party, it was really fun! You should do a cool Joan Holloway updo!
p.s. if you are an Alice in Wonderland fan…check out my cute giveaway!!
I saw it- its an awesome giveaway and I hope I win!
nom. nom. nom. So did you do a DIY on the lava lamps? I must have missed it, but that sounds like a great idea.
no, but I will! they are fun!
i LOVE fondue! there was a place in colorado that i loved to go to when we lived there. salivating over the warm cheese and bread cubes as we speak.
[oomph.]
It was high time we used our fondue set we got a few years ago haha!
Woot, that looks soooo fun-due (couldn’t resist). You throw a great party! BTW, I nominated you for a Liebster Blog award. You can see the details over at my blog, and it looks like you threw a party to celebrate!
Thank you for the award!
What a fun party! I threw a party on Saturday for my husband’s birthday, but there was no theme…just cupcakes and beer 🙂 That could be a theme I guess?
I’d go to any party with a cupcake and beer theme!
You’re so freaking cute – I love your party theme and all of your decorations. My favorite party theme is Halloween – yes, I’m boring. haha Adam’s birthday is in October, so I’ve done kid’s costume/Halloween/birthday party themed parties and they’re always a blast. 🙂
Halloween themes are very fun!
one of my favorites is “make your own california roll sushi party” :). i also really like “bring your own salad” party! both have been such a hit!
one year we did a sushi parti for valentines day with some other couples. It was really fun!
