| Oi! That ain’t Celsius! This morning’s walk caught me off guard! |

| By my walk home the temp had doubled, Whew! |
Last weekend man-go-round and I watched the movie 500 Days of Summer. After about a year of waiting on the library circulation list for my turn, I have to say I was sorely disappointed. I got bored about 20 minutes into it and started puttering around in the kitchen instead. Then I tried to watch it again if only for the sheer hotness of Joseph Gordon Levitt (when did this happen???), but found myself reading an Utne instead, which is bizarre because I don’t even really like that magazine.
Which just made me realize- my weekends have gotten really sad this winter. Instead of doing fun stuff during my free time, I dart from social outings or errands back into the house, only to hole up for the rest of the evening, sort of wishing to hibernate away the rest of the cold. Blech.
In the summertime, I don’t watch crappy movies. In the summertime, I take my time outdoors and enjoy the fresh air.
In the summertime, the livin’s easy.
I give you: “500 Songs of Summer“, None of which feature Zooey Deschanel. (You’re welcome for that…) along with a random lyric from the song just for fun!
1. Summer Song- Atmosphere “she came back to visit, she says because in some ways Minneapolis is more real than LA”
(you didn’t think you’d get any lists without Slug, didja?)
2. In the Summertime- Jerry Mungo “if her daddy’s rich, take her out for a meal, if her daddy’s poor, just do what you feel… )
hmm, this lyric still hits me pretty hard every time I hear it…. sinister motives behind that cheery facade…
3. Doin’ Time- Sublime “Summertime, and the living’s easy…”
Yes, yes it is Bradley. I bet you wouldn’t have fared so well in MN winter though…
4. School’s Out- Alice Cooper “we got no intelligence… we can’t even think of a word that rhymes.” This lyric always has made me laugh. It reminds me of this one Liz Phair song where towards the end of the line she just sort of mumbles off into nothing and doesn’t finish it. Makes me laugh out loud every. single. time.
5. Summer Nights- Grease Kenickie “Tell me more tell me more did you get very far?” Marty (a girl) “Tell me more tell me more, like does he have a car?”
Ahh, this is the original “men are from mars, women are from venus” song to me.
6. Summer Girls- LFO I can’t pick one. Every lyric in this song is ridiculous cheese. It reminds me of when I went to Cleveland for the Junior Olympics (tennis, that is), and they surprised us with the “hottest new band around” at the opening ceremony. Too bad no one had heard of them… yet…
Okay, well there are obviously hundreds more songs about summer, and that sort of evoke the laid back, lemonade sippin’ summer time. I think I’m content with my slightly schizo playlist for now though. Adding more might just be torture, right?
What is your favorite lazy thing to do in the summer? Do you have favorite summer tunes for me?
