I saw this male and female cardinal flitting around the branch of the main tree out front…
When I told man-go-round about it later, he told me that cardinals mate for life. Awww, how sweet. Although I’m being a bit sarcastic here (would you recognize me if I wasn’t?), it reminded me that I’ve gone almost an entire music month without
LOVE SONGS!
Now, I know it isn’t Valentine’s Day, or any sort of anniversary or anything, but who needs an excuse to celebrate the most painfully simple, exuberant, and hopeful love songs ever created?
Of course, there are so many out there I had to be slightly choosy. I’m ignoring a certain Whitney Houston song as well as the dreaded theme from “Ghost” as I find them annoying. Gasp. So here, you can read my favorites.
And afterward, you can tell me your favorites. Deal?
Classic Love Songs:
-“I can’t help falling in love with you”- Elvis
-“At Last”- Etta James
-“Your Song”- Elton John
-“I got you babe”- Sonny and Cher
-“Maybe I’m Amazed”- Paul McCartney
-“Something”- The Beatles (you try choosing just one Beatles song…)
Eighties Love Songs:
-“Melt with you”- Modern English
-“Just like heaven”- The cure (because it’s better than both Lovesong and Friday I’m in love…)
-“In your eyes”- Peter Gabriel. The light. The heat.
Are these actually love songs? Love Songs:
-“Diremaker”- Led Zeppelin (runner up… the girl I love she got long black wavy hair)
-“Such Great Heights”- Iron and Wine
Meri’s personal fave Love Songs
-“I’ll be your mirror”- Nico (although the reason I like it is to wail obnoxiously in her accent…)
-“Do you remember”- Jack Johnson (cheesy, but I just love it)
-“If not for you”- Bobby D
-“Happy Together”- The Turtles
-“Still the one”- Shania Twain (oh, the shame. the shame shame shame, but I love it and it reminds me of junior high or something)
Alright friends- spill! What cheesy love songs do you rock out to in the comfort of your own home? Do you have a shared song with a significant other or s.o of years past?
Meri
