Hi friends! I met up with a dear, dear friend tonight here:
What- you can’t read backwards? Koyi Sushi of course!
…greetings…
Kirin Ichiban
It’s clearly Thirsty Thursday. I ordered this Japanese lager, and we chatted away over strains of Frank Sinatra. As we discussed our hopes, dreams, and travel, I started to think about some of the other beers I’ve enjoyed in different phases of my life.
Yep, you guessed it, folks- tonight is a Meri Free Association post… as in, I give you way too much information about what I’ve liked in different phases of my life, hoping that my cheesetastic puns keep you from closing the browswer window and never reading my blog again…so, here goes!
Corona- Easy. Spring Break freshman year of college in Cancun with my two best friends. dip, flip, enjoy. Best with a side of frat boy.
Icehouse- Old school? Freshman year dorm with my gals. Smiling from ear to ear as we drank these while watching that voice-dubbed game show on Spike, before bowling at Midway bowl. Good times. These days it is Man-go-round’s “fallback” beer, it usually enjoys a place in our back hallway beer cellar.
Heineken- Although my first thought should be, well, the Heineken museum in Amsterdam, it’s not. I go immediately to my time living in Madrid when I drank this more than anything else. It was 2 years after I got home before I could enjoy it again.
Leinenkugels- ugh. double ugh for the Honey Weiss.
Miller Light- Man-go-round’s crazy spaz ex roommate, surely locked up in some crankhouse by now.
Stella Artois- Golden, delicious, what I drink when I’m trying to be classy.
Bell’s Two Hearted Ale- Man-go-round’s and I drink this when we want to splurge. Woo hoo!
Red Stripe- Reminds me of a time Man-go-round and I made spring rolls at the run-down mansion I used to live at. Sitting out on the (sagging) balcony drinking red stripe in the summertime. Delish.
Mahou- Ahhh, expat holiday dinners with friends, drinking liters of Mahou pretending we weren’t sad to be away from our families. Spanish Beer Pong parties. Bodegas.
Miller High Life- Gutter dredge
Guinness- uuuurgh tummy ache. Drinking 5+ of them in a row to get a t-shirt (with a nearly complete college degree to my name, I might add…) Forever ruined St. Patty’s Day for me as far as drinking. Still have the t-shirt though! Thanks Finbars!
Newcastle- Sittiing at Lyles drinking 2-4-1’s while chatting with our favorite bartender, waiting for the other regulars to show.
Coney Island- Sitting with my sisters and momma on an East Village pub crawl adventure. Slowing down for a minute amidst a whirlwind weekend.
So what is my favorite beer, you might ask? Really, I’m not very discerning. I like craft beers or ales, sure. I like trying new ones too. But most of the time, give me a simple lager like Heineken or Stella and I’m totally content.
What kinds of beer do you drink? Have your tastes changed over the years?
And you didn’t think a day would go buy without Munch Madness, did you???
In yesterday’s battle, Bell Peppers gained a clear victory over Carrots. Final score? 21-13. Sorry carrots!
Who’s next on the docket?
Get ready to vote for the fruits, friends:
Braggin’ Bananas vs. Chargin’ Cherries!
Let me know!
