"channeling" my inner critic

Hi guys! I enjoyed all of the feedback about Listmania, and liked hearing what everybody hoards or holds dear. I would like to add that I intentionally left off truly important things like family/ friends/ food/ shelter, and focused instead on “things” that I have a pathetic material obsession with.

Now something new! Throughout the years, my teevee viewing has waxed and waned. I never watched it as a wee tot, then glued myself too it in the elementary years (Friends and Will and Grace NBC Thursday block anyone)? In college we enjoyed drinking our icehouse alongside the OC and the Hills. I spent 3-4 years without cable (or a television, actually), and then a year and a half ago we got cable. Initially, for the hockey. Now, I’m just addicted.

Right now I have Mad Men season 3 on loan from the lovely Hennepin County Library system. We’ve been cramming a few episodes in every night in order to have it back in the 7 days we’re allowed. I am aware we’re a bit behind, but hey- I’m cheap and hate watching TV in the prime time slots it is aired. Which brings me to tonight’s list…

“Net working it”: Meri’s Favorite TeeVee Networks

1. Showtime– We don’t get this, but my parents do. They bring us Weeds and The United States of Tara. Nurse Jackie lives here, and they aired one of my all time favorites, the L Word.

You’re looking very Shane today… Shane…

2. HBO- Like Showtime, I see this on DVD or at my parents On Demand. But who doesn’t love the maker of Sex and the City, Six Feet Under, Da Ali G show… come on! Plus, I want to see Boardwalk Empire, Big Love, and True Blood. This list alone puts them on the… list.

3. Travel Channel- Pros? Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations. Cons? Samantha Brown.

4. Cooking Channel- For Jamie Oliver and actually showing cooking some of the time (yes, I’m talking to you Food Network- enough stupid cake competitions!)

5. Bravo- For originating Project Runway. For duplicating this formula with such addictive trash as “Shear Genius,” “Top Chef,” and “The Runway” or whatever that show is called. For introducing me to Jackie Warner with the no longer showing “Work Out,” and for the idiotic Real Desperate Housewives of _______ franchise that is truly hit or miss for me.

I did buy your DVD, Jackie! It’s just to hard to… use…

6. Lifetime- For taking over and revamping Project Runway, for Drop Dead Diva (this might be the dumbest program I regularly watch. I blame the influence of Margaret Cho…) and for the Tori Spelling TV movies putting women in precarious situations, usually involving a babysitter and/or seduction.

7. FOX– Two Words. Arrested. Development. Honorable Mentions: Family Guy, the Simpsons

8. NBC- Plus? SNL, Friends, Will & Grace, Seinfeld, 30 Rock, The Office
Minus? Does the name Conan ring a bell? BAD NBC! NAUGHTY!

9. MTV- So I can try to keep up with what the “kids” are doing these days. Not to be confused with music television, that died years ago at the hand of Snookie Polizzi.

10. The CW- Despite the embarrassment that is Hellcats, 90210, Gossip Girl, Vampire Diaries, One Tree Hill, and lots of other shows (I will however admit I haven’t seen all of these), the redeeming GLORY of television remains…

ANTM. Tyra Banks. Boom.

You wanna be on top… of Tyra’s ponytail?

Which networks do you guys always flip back to? Favorite shows or channels? I left off sports here because I tend to watch the important ones that are on network TV.

Let me know!
Meri
