Flora and Fawning

Hi dear readers and friends!
Around here, in the last few days, things have come alive.

Tulips on every corner, yellow petaled trees, and daffodils and pansies aplenty.

As I strolled through the neighborhood last night in the setting sun, I thought it might be fun to have a listmania garden special! So, without further ado (so you can all get outside to the beautiful springtime)…

FLOWER POWER! Meri’s Favorite Flowers

1. Lilacs. If there are people out there resistant to the charms of the lilac’s aroma, I think they might be goblins or x-men or something. A fleeting joy, but a simple one.

2. Rununculus. Just learned about this one at Easter this year, thanks to my classy mama!

3. Peonies.  Incredible. I learned that they need ants to eat away the layers before they can fully open.
4. Birds of Paradise. From the very unique and exotic…
5. Hydrangea. … to the very simple. I like the lavender-blue ones with pinkish edges best!
6. Little Johns. Prominent in Ma and Pa’s ‘hood in Arizona

7. Tulips. Whether in Washington, Holland, or Minneapolis, I love them in every color. I also cherish my wooden tulips!

8. Marigolds. Not just because the name sort of sounds like mine, but because they are bright and cheery and my mom always had them in her gardens surrounded by lilies, cone flowers, and peonies.

Alright, that’s quite enough lovey dovey for the flowers I think… I know what is on everyone’s mind is the flowers I can’t STAND! Here goes:

-Daisies- because they reek. The smell makes me gag.
-Petunias- because they almost always look dead, even if they are brand new.
-Wilty/ delicate flowers in general. Lame.
-Roses- I just don’t think they are very pretty. They are okay, but look at the heavenly Rununculus! A wonderful replacement!

What is your favorite flower? Do you have a garden or do you just appreciate the work of others, like me? Are there flowers that bring back memories of childhood or grandparents or travel?

-Meri
