Hey everybody! Happy Friday!
Man-go-round and I are making the big move this weekend to our new place, so it likens to be sort of a dry spell on Meri-goes-round until we find an internet hookup there. I might pop into a coffee shop if I can’t restrain myself from the blogworld, however. Wish us luck!
The weather today was incredible. We went on a stroll this evening and it FINALLY feels like spring is here. However, there threatens to be scattered showers over the weekend, which for me means one of three things:
-Coffee and crafts
-Mall and Library
-Movie night!
So in the spirit of option 3, a movie-mania list seems appropriate for tonight! I tend to get very bored with most modern movies- nothing wrong with them, they are just too long and “shiny” for me (except Harry Potter of course). So to be more specific, these are my favorite “old” movies. I have no rules for dates they must fall in, its just a made-up definition I have in my head. Here goes!
Meri’s Moviehouse
1. The Philadelphia Story– Timeless, classic. I love Katherine Hepburn, sometimes even more than “saint” Audrey. Also, Jimmy Stewart.
2. Sabrina– However, I think we all are madly in love with Audrey as well. This is one of my favorite movies of all time, and the dress she wears at the party is unbelievable. Plus, the name Linus Larabee is maybe the best character name ever.

3. To Catch a Thief– Despite the ridiculous and euphemistic “fireworks” scene which made me laugh uncontrollably, the technicolor travel dreamery of this movie, plus two of the most attractive people ever to exist (Grace Kelly, Cary Grant), put this movie on the list.
4. Some Like it Hot- I can watch this over and over and over and still laugh. “Nobody’s Perfect!”
5. Dr. Strangelove– Peter Sellers, angst, communism… “precious bodily fluids…” what more could you want from a film?
6. All About Eve– Bette Davis= Pure awesomeness. Celeste Holm=dead to me. Love this one.
7. The Big Sleep– This movie confused me beyond all sanity, but I still loved it
8. Bringing up Baby– The peignoir. And more Kath Hep.

9. Roman Holiday. J’adore (wrong language, so sue me)
10. Breakfast at Tiffany’s- because like all young girls, I desperately wanted to be this glamorous. It was quite a wake-up call when in college I read Capote’s version and realized how depressing the character/ story truly is. However, the name Hepburn seems to be cinematic gold, yes?
Note: I did not include musicals because they seem to warrant their own list. You’ll also notice the absence of lots of famous Hitchcock films, Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Rebel without a cause, gone with the wind… this is no accident. Deal with it.
Or, instead, you could tell me your favorite old movies!
And wish us luck with the move! I’ll see you cats on the other side!
Meri
