Pro(tein)s and Cons

Man-go-round was nice enough to buy this for me:

It was incredibly sweet of him, as he was supporting my ambition to become she-woman with a promised 25 grams of protein in one chocolatey bottle.

The only problem? Dude was painfully unaware of my traumatized past with nutrition shakes brought on by gagging down Ensure as a kid (don’t worry mom and dad, the years and years of psychotherapy are slowly helping… hehe kidding…). I absolutely detest these things, and no amount of muscle/ weight gain promises makes a darn difference to me. I hate milk and all products like it- I can’t stand how it coats your throat like a phlegmy menace.

I digress. I figured since he bought it, I would try it. The verdict? Yep, it might be chocolately (plus one point) but it smells and tastes EXACTLY like Ensure (minus 27,000 points). I drank about half of it and then decided to save the rest to blend up with some frozen bananas and Reeses Pieces… pieces (can you tell I like to use my food processor?)

But gaggy protein shakes aside, what’s a vegetarian to do to get protein? I guarantee if you are a vegetarian or vegan long enough, you will get asked this question. Sooooo, to prepare any herbivores out there, I give you my list, from favorite to least favorite.

Meri’s “Preferred” Proteins
1. Nuts/ Nut butters. Come on, who doesn’t love these? Granted, my stomach sometimes doesn’t, but hey, a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do in the name of protein, right?

2. Lentils/ Beans/ Quinoa- Some people don’t love these because of the longer soaking/ cooking time. I sort of enjoy it, as towards the end I can start to stir things in, boil off the liquid, and play with add-ins.

3. Luna bars- These usually have approximately 9 grahams of protein. Not bad for a cookie! Here’s one I tried yesterday…

4. Eggplant meatballs. I first had these visiting my parents in Arizona, then found them while visiting San Francisco. I thought for awhile they were a Safeway only product. Then one day at the co-op- Voila! I found them. Enter extreme happiness

Sauce me up, baby!

5. Seitan Jerky/ Soy veggie burgers/ Soy veggie crumbles/ Seitan/ Tempeh- Yeah, I lumped them all together because I like all of them about the same. I like them, but don’t buy them that often because of expense. Pass the lentils!

I loooove you, Primal Foods- Sky high sodium and all!

6. Cottage Cheese/ Greek Yogurt- I like these, but usually don’t eat large enough amounts to get much protein out of them. Thus, I don’t count on them to get protein.

7. Eggs/ Other cheeses- Meh. Again, I don’t feel the protein count is high enough to eat them for that sole reason. So I eat them in smaller amounts on the occasions I feel like it. I do enjoy hard boiled eggs with lunch.

8. Tofu- Ick. Pretty much never eat it, unless it’s done really right, a.k.a by someone else.

9. Protein powders- The few I’ve tried, taste way off. Also, with my distaste for shakes/ smoothies, I’m not sure how I can really eat them without gagging. Plus, the price… Any ideas?

I know you can get a good amount of protein from some whole grain products, pastas, breads, wraps, and more. I guess I never looked to check though, and I’m too lazy to go look in the cupboard, SO, the list remains devoid of them.

I am in no way an expert on vegetarianism, and only some of the above items are vegan. This is just my own personal list grown and gleaned over the years to reflect my favorites and most frequently eaten. Hope you enjoy! What ways do you get protein? Have you ever had a nasty protein shake experience?

And now,  the moment I got out of bed today for we’re all waiting for… Munch Madness! Click here for details on the “tournament” if you’re new here.

Last night’s battle was Strawberries vs. Blueberries. It was a tough choice for some, but Strawberries win with a final score of 15-8. Better luck next time, Bloobs! (I giggle every time I call them that).

And tonight? I have a sneaking suspicion how this one will go,  but…

Cucumbers vs. Okra!

Oh, and if not one person votes for my beloved okra, I will count my own vote this time so I don’t cry. Now, let the unbiased voting begin!

Talk to me, people! And if you have tasty protein ideas for me, do tell! I’m never too old to try something new, unless it’s a protein shake that is.

Nut Goodies

Today man-go-round and I strolled about town in the calm before the (allegedly coming) thunderstorm. Although it was a gray sort of day, there were definite bright spots. For example…

Anyone know what these are?

Here’s a clue by cuisine…
I was at this place… The Caspian Market…

Where I ultimately purchased these items…

Any guesses what they are?

They are not, as the man behind me in line said, “really weird grapes.” Nope, they are fresh almonds! I feel so silly for having such a love for almonds and never knowing what a fresh almond looked like.

My next step was to ask the proprietor of the Caspian Bistro/ adjoining market, “Well, how do you eat them?” (If I was already a fool for asking what they were, I was going to get to the bottom of it!)

He proceeded to scoop one out of the bin, sprinkle it with salt, and advise me to bite all the way to the stem. The verdict? Vaguely almondy, yes. Much less crunchy, obviously. Sort of like an edamame-almond hybrid, if you ask me. Definitely curious for more!

I love the Caspian. On other visits I have procured delicious olives and fresh figs, tried my first dried mulberry, been inspired to make dried garbanzos in my oven (with disastrous results), poured over spices, and browsed the exotic jams (ever heard of rose butter? I’d sure like to try it!)

But what I love about this place isn’t just the food. I could surely find the same goods at Holy Land or another market in town. What I love about this place is the reception I always enjoy by the staff who work there. I’ve “met” some really cool new foods due to tutorials such as todays’, and always leave feeling like I want to come right back the next day.

So today’s food post? Well, I could write a novel on nuts in general, so I’ll limit it to:

Almonds!
How do I enjoy them most? Today, my lovely readers- you get a list.

-Raw, crunchy, as a snack
-My beloved almond milk- in oatmeal, in coffee, mixed with pudding…
-Roasted and made into almond butter in my food processor
-Fresh, on a Saturday afternoon, as of today!
-On salads with spinach, raisins or dates, and strawberries
-Almond extract in my pancake mix
-In biscotti or granola bars
-Almond m&ms! Almond Joy! Almond Snickers!
-Slivered, atop Man-go-round’s mocha-rum birthday cake I made a few years back
-Coated in pastel candy. Heaven

Up next?
-Almond flour- any ideas?
-Almond paste- any ideas?

And now for today’s Munch Madness! At time of blog publishing this evening, Sweet potatoes beat regular old potatoes 19-9. Thanks to everyone who voted, and all of you who commented on jell-o as well! I said to man-go-round “I can’t believe some of these people have never had jell-o!” to which he responded slyly, “hmm, maybe they are busy eating actual food?” Touche.

Tonight’s match- To both veteran and newbie voters, I present:

Blueberries vs. Strawberries!

Why do I get the feeling this will be a tough one?

So place your votes for your favorite of the two berries! And let me know how you use them! And how do you feel about almonds- ever had a fresh one? How do you eat almonds?

Goodnight, from my nuthouse to yours!

J-E-L-L-Oh Yeah!

That’s right, people. It’s time I express my looooove for Jell-O. Yep, I’m a proud Jell-O eating vegetarian. I also own one leather jacket.

I’m not getting political, just answering that question for anyone who cares. I also use chicken stock on occasion and eat the occasional fish or shrimp. I may have never tried any kind of beef, but I have tried scallops and a langostino, and even once a bite of calamari.

If I could only choose one animal product to keep, though, it would have to be Jell-O.

A rainbow of colors, it is pretty to be sure. But what do I like best about Jell-O? It’s cold, refreshing, deliciously juicy texture. I’m a sensory girl with food and drink, and for me Jell-O is about as good as it gets.

limey goodness- plain…

lemon with vanilla yogurt on top!
I like jello plain, in jigglers, with alcohol…with yogurt on top…and in snack cups. I like it in salads with fruit and whipped cream, and pretty much any way you make it. What are my favorite flavors? Well…

Meri’s Top Five Jell-O Loves

1. Lime
2. Lemon
3. Orange
4. Cherry
5. Peach

Clearly, I like the citrus flavors. So– tell Mama Meri…. Do you like Jell-O? Hate it? Favorite flavors?

….And of course you’re all wondering about Munch Madness, right? In case you’re new around here, all month long I’m holding a tournament of Fruits vs. Veggies with a bracket and all (see here). Right now we are in the preliminary rounds, pitting fruits vs. fruits and veggies vs. veggies.

Yesterday’s match was a close one! I think the closest yet, with a final score of 13-11. Buuuut…

Bananas prevail! Sorry Cherry lovers, I’m with you to be honest, but votes are votes, and Bananas got more!

So tonight, we dive back in to another vote…

The Fightin’ Potato
vs.
The (deceivingly feisty despite it’s name!) Sweet Potato!

Who gets your vote? Oh, and Yams count for Sweet Potatoes too.

Thanks for playing, guys! I’m having a great time with this tourney!

Beers over the Years

Hi friends! I met up with a dear, dear friend tonight here:

What- you can’t read backwards? Koyi Sushi of course!

…greetings…

Kirin Ichiban

It’s clearly Thirsty Thursday. I ordered this Japanese lager, and we chatted away over strains of Frank Sinatra. As we discussed our hopes, dreams, and travel, I started to think about some of the other beers I’ve enjoyed in different phases of my life.

Yep, you guessed it, folks- tonight is a Meri Free Association post… as in, I give you way too much information about what I’ve liked in different phases of my life, hoping that my cheesetastic puns keep you from closing the browswer window and never reading my blog again…so, here goes!

Corona- Easy. Spring Break freshman year of college in Cancun with my two best friends. dip, flip, enjoy. Best with a side of frat boy.

Icehouse- Old school? Freshman year dorm with my gals. Smiling from ear to ear as we drank these while watching that voice-dubbed game show on Spike, before bowling at Midway bowl. Good times. These days it is Man-go-round’s “fallback” beer, it usually enjoys a place in our back hallway beer cellar.

Heineken- Although my first thought should be, well, the Heineken museum in Amsterdam, it’s not. I go immediately to my time living in Madrid when I drank this more than anything else. It was 2 years after I got home before I could enjoy it again.

Leinenkugels- ugh. double ugh for the Honey Weiss.

Miller Light- Man-go-round’s crazy spaz ex roommate, surely locked up in some crankhouse by now.

Stella Artois- Golden, delicious, what I drink when I’m trying to be classy.

Bell’s Two Hearted Ale- Man-go-round’s and I drink this when we want to splurge. Woo hoo!

Red Stripe- Reminds me of a time Man-go-round and I made spring rolls at the run-down mansion I used to live at. Sitting out on the (sagging) balcony drinking red stripe in the summertime. Delish.

Mahou- Ahhh, expat holiday dinners with friends, drinking liters of Mahou pretending we weren’t sad to be away from our families. Spanish Beer Pong parties. Bodegas.

Miller High Life- Gutter dredge

Guinness- uuuurgh tummy ache. Drinking 5+ of them in a row to get a t-shirt (with a nearly complete college degree to my name, I might add…) Forever ruined St. Patty’s Day for me as far as drinking. Still have the t-shirt though! Thanks Finbars!

Newcastle- Sittiing at Lyles drinking 2-4-1’s while chatting with our favorite bartender, waiting for the other regulars to show.

Coney Island- Sitting with my sisters and momma on an East Village pub crawl adventure. Slowing down for a minute amidst a whirlwind weekend.

So what is my favorite beer, you might ask? Really, I’m not very discerning. I like craft beers or ales, sure. I like trying new ones too. But most of the time, give me a simple lager like Heineken or Stella and I’m totally content.

What kinds of beer do you drink? Have your tastes changed over the years?

And you didn’t think a day would go buy without  Munch Madness, did you???

In yesterday’s battle, Bell Peppers gained a clear victory over Carrots. Final score? 21-13. Sorry carrots!

Who’s next on the docket?

Get ready to vote for the fruits, friends:

Braggin’ Bananas vs. Chargin’ Cherries!

Let me know!

"Raisin" the Roof

The battle continues, my lovelies! As April plods on and we move down the bracket, the matches are starting to get a bit more competitive!

Last night, for example, Killer Kiwi reigned supreme over the Pummeled Pomegranate- but there were definitely some Pom fans out there! The final score was 12-8.

But hey, Pom fans- don’t be discouraged! You can avenge this loss by voting for your favorite tonight!
Back to the veggie side, tonight it is:

Carrots vs. Bell Peppers!

Which do you prefer? The rooty, orange, slightly sweet crunchers? Or the crisp, juicy, tri-colored pepps?

I like my carrots raw and crunchy and cold from the fridge, or baked and whipped with cinnamon and nutmeg.

I like peppers stir fried, on pizza, roasted and slurpy or raw and snappy.

Who do you vote for?

And now that that’s covered, I have a foodie topic very very Meri tonight:

Tomaters!

Pluots!

Figgies!

Yep! Dried fruit!
Those of you who know me know that I could make a whole food group out of dried fruit. Trail mix is fine, but I often just eat the dried fruit and forget about the nuts and seeds. When I visit my parents I often completely deplete their cupboard full of gourmet dried fruits (Hello, TJ’s jumbo raisins… pleased to meet  eat you!)

I know dried fruit is sort of “love it or hate it,” as I know as many people who are disgusted by it’s utter existence as aficionados like myself. So if you hate it, bear with me. This is a post filled with love and adoration!

Here are my favorite dried fruits, and other food items I like to mix with them.

1. Dried dates/ dried figs: These two tie for being perhaps the sweetest of the bunch. Take an already sugar loaded fruit and then concentrate it by drying and shriveling? Sugar explosion! The seeds in dried figs are like sugar crystals. mommy likey. I just eat these plain usually.

2. Raisins! Best in cookies, plumped up in oatmeal, in bread, atop apple slaw or salads, or just by the fistful in your parents kitchen. My favorites are the golden, then the flame, then the traditional. I think we might all agree the bigger the better with raisins.

3. Dried papaya/ mango/ pineapple– Slightly chewier, often sugared (WHY???) I like these as a purse snack for when I need a quick sugar buzz.

4. Dried Pear/Plum/ Pluot/ Peach/ Apricot- When you dry out a stone fruit, they still retain an incredible amount of juiciness. These ones win for plumpness, and are pretty sweet as well.

5. Dried Strawberries/ Blueberries– Tasty, but regrettably more expensive than a lot of other dried fruit. Harder to find in bulk for some reason.

6. Dried Apple– The most curious of dried fruit textures. The most “acquired taste,” I think. Definitely the least sweet. Chewy, like jerky almost. I’ve grown to really love them! Not to be confused with freeze dried apple chips or the like.

7. Dried cranberries– Um, I find these boring. It’s hard to find them unsweetened (again, WHY? like there isn’t enough sugar already!) Sometimes I eat them when all of the other dried fruit is gone.

8.Sun-dried tomatoes- Definitely the “different” one in this group. I adore sun-dried tomatoes. I’ve started buying them in bulk completely dried, then reconstituting for use in pizza bagels, pasta dishes, salads, and more. Way way cheaper than jarred in oil or even bagged. You’ll thank me later when your wallet is fatter!

9. Dried Goji Berries- A newer kid on the block to me, I can’t get enough of these. At first I thought they gave me, (ahem) “digestive issues,” then I realized it was the sheer quantity I was eating. Whoops. I like them plumped up in hot water, dry as a snack with some pepitas, or stirred into oatmeal or oat bran. The juice left over if you steep them in hot water is really good too. Sometimes they need a rinse first though!

10. Dried Mulberries- Saved the weirdest for last. I tried these for the first time at the Caspian Bistro (in the market section). They sell these in bulk with the dried garbanzos and candied Almonds. A formidable trail mix, but kind of like eating delicious, tiny little bugs. Be careful of the stems- they hide! Not for the faint of heart, but one of my favorites!

So there you have it. I could rant and rave all day about dried fruits, but I’d rather hear what you think about dried fruits! Do you love all of them? Hate ’em? Only like a few? Total newb?

Do tell! And place your veggie votes too!

Meri’s Menagerie

Get ready for some bad bad breath…

Onions have bested Beets 20-9 in last night’s match. Sorry beets- I still like you except for when you make my throat all scratchy (anyone ever try eating a golden beet slice raw and get all swollen and itchy from it???)

Tonight’s match… A fruity fight.

The powerful Pomegranate vs. the Killer Kiwi…

Let’s get it goin’!

Now, I promised anyone who accepted my shameless bid for attention (aka reposting my Munch Madness graphic) a tasty treat in return. My friend Emma, a formidable blogger and new momma, has graciously featured my silly fruits and veggies on her blog. She will not go unrewarded…

Straight from the work vending machine to my heart  mouth

Which of these owls is not like the other? In honor of Emma’s site, An Owl’s Nest, which focuses on everything from mommy tips to product reviews to photography to crafts and home articles. There’s something for everyone, and her site is really well done. Go check it out!

And now, you may be wondering why the last picture is of… Animal Crackers? Well, because they may just be the only thing I’ve ever seriously considered a “favorite food.” How do I love thee, Animal Crackers? Let me counteth the ways…

1. You are not too sweet, just sweet enough
2. Your deceitful name makes it sort of socially acceptable to eat you as a snack, even though clearly you are cookies
3. You can bite their heads/ limbs off, make one-act plays with them, and arrange them in a little menagerie on your computer…
4. Forget ensure- if you ever get the flu and lose weight, they do well for quick weight gain in a pinch
5. Frost them
6. Dip them in yogurt or pudding
7. Crumble them atop oatmeal and let them soak up the liquid
8. Use them as a vehicle for flavored Peanut Butters at PB Loco
9. Dirt cheap! Ever buy the ones from Walgreens or Target for like 50 cents a pound? Me too.
10. They are cute, and make playing with your food acceptable and effortless.

Although as a kid I liked the frosted/sprinkled ones and cinnamon/ iced ones best (Carnival crackers I think they are called?) I now prefer the slightly less sweet, lemony “cracker” version found in the zoo boxes or in a vending machine near you.

Judge if you want, I’ll be eatin’ my animal crackers and listening to this song by Melanie.

Do you like animal crackers? Ever play with your food?

Raising the "bar"

Hey guys! I did some more playing around in Paint, and I’ve created a little graphic for Meri’s Munch Madness! If you want to post it on your blog I’d be happy to give you a shoutout in return. Spread the love my little foodies!

For those of you new around here, I’m doing a winner-takes-all tournament throughout the month, veggies vs. fruits, with a different competition and vote each day.

Yesterday’s winners are…

Broccoli and Figs!

Tonight’s match was a bit closer (20-8 Broccoli over Cauli, and 15-11 Figs over Dates) but still a pretty clear victory. I’m looking for a nail biter one of these days!

So, without further ado…. tonight’s vote is a veggie match.

Beets
vs.
Onions

So go ahead and vote!

And for tonight’s food frenzy… It’s all about the bar.
Nope, not the place you go to drink and get all stumbly, although that might be a fun post…

Nope, these kind of bars…

I looooove these things…

pretty sure “s’more” and “spooky s’more” are identical…

soyjoy!

My favorite bars in life…

So I thought I’d do kind of a “top six list” of my favorite bars. Some I like for a quick snack, some I eat for the protein, and some I pretty much snarf down as dessert (I’m talking to you, Clif Kids bars…)

1. Go Raw (Banana Bread flavor)- These are good and chewy, not too sweet, and have a short short short nutrition label. The only downside is the price, which is steep when they aren’t on sale.

2. Clif Kids Z-bars (favorite flavors are Blueberry, which I’ve only found in Arizona, and s’more. The only flavor I don’t really care for is the Peanut Butter)- These bars are pure dessert. I eat them every night.

3. Kashi Go-Lean Crunch (Chocolate Caramel Flavor)- These are really tasty and have lots of protein. Downside? Sometimes my jaw hurts after I eat them, they really are chewy.

4. Luna (Cinnamon Vanilla Raisin flavor)- These are tasty, have a decent amount of energy in them, and also some vitamins and protein going for them. Downside? Sometimes they don’t feel like anything special.

5. Soyjoy (Strawberry, Blueberry, Berry)- I like these three flavors of what I call the “scone bar.” Tasty, but sort of an overpriced cookie, again.

6. Gnu Flavor and Fiber (Cinnamon Raisin and Banana Walnut)- Again, I’m a sucker for anything raisin or banana flavored. These are reeeaaaally chewy, which I love, and have a lot of fiber, which is good for my genetic digestive construct. ahem. Let’s make fiber cool again people!

Do you guys like bars? Do you eat them for quick energy, as a snack, or as a dessert? Are there ones you don’t like? Am I the only jerk who thinks Larabars are overrated?

And go ahead and vote!!!

A Message to you, Rudi’s

Bonus points if you know what tonight’s title comes from!

I’m back with more results from Munch Madness. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can see the bracket here. Shameless attempt at blog promotion coming…

C’mon- these are so cute you want to paste them on your own blog, right? 🙂

Last night’s contenders were Squash/Zucchini vs. Pumpkin for veggies, and Apple vs. Pear for fruits.

The winners are…

Zucchini/ Squash and Apples!

It was pretty much a landslide here (18-6 for both fruits and veggies races). Some of you mentioned that pumpkin is in the squash family. Indeed. I kind of wanted to separate it from the others since it’s sort of it’s own entity to me.

Also, thanks to all for contributing recipes- be sure to check the comments for descriptions of everything from homemade pineapple juice to prosciutto wrapped asparagus. Yum!

Now if anyone wants to share recipes or favorite ways to use yesterday’s competitors, I’m all ears! I suppose none of these are the MOST seasonal right now, but I can start to get excited about next fall’s pumpkin muffins, right?

Now…

It’s in the bag(el)!

PB and honey, cream cheese- tasty any way you make it!

What is my message for Rudy Rudi’s Organic Bakery? THANK YOU! You have resuscitated my ability to eat bagels thanks to your delicious, soft- pretzel-like, nutty and chewy bagels. Back in high school, I literally (I use this not like Rachel Zoe, but in the actual meaning of the word) ate a Cream cheese bagel and special K bar Every. Single. Day. for lunch. For a long time after that, I could barely look at a bagel without wanting to yak. I had some delicious bagels in Manhattan, but that was the extent of it for 5-6 years.

Now, thanks to Rudi’s, I’m ready to try some more and slowly reintroduce this food into my life. Sounds easy, right? Well, a  year or so ago I ate a refrigerator bagel and gagged. So this is a big step.

They also make dank breads. My favorite is the oat and nut. Whenever they are on sale, I buy it. They can be a bit pricey though.

So there’s some carb love for you. Are bagels a regular part of your diet? What do you put on them?

And TONIGHT’S VOTE is:

BROCCOLI vs. CAULIFLOWER
and
FIGS (fresh or dried) vs. DATES (fresh or dried)

Tonight will be the last “double header,” so from here on out it will be one competition a day until the finals.

Vote for your faves and share how you use them!

It’s not easy being green beans

Yep, that’s a spoiler. The results are in from round one of April’s March “Munch Madness” tourney, a.k.a. Fruits vs. Veggies. Thanks to everyone who is playing along, I’m very nerdily excited about this little game and I couldn’t do it without voters!

In the veg corner, Asparagus beat Green Beans 24-13, and in the fruit fight Pineapple bested the humble Mango winning 22 votes to 13

I’ve got a little consolation prize for you Mango lovers, but first I give you round two in the great debate:

Fight One:
Squash (all varieties from summer to spaghetti to butternut etc) and zucchini
vs.
Pumpkin (so maybe it’s a fruit. I’m calling it a veggie because it tastes like a veggie and I hate science)

Fight Two:
Pear
vs.
Apple

Place your votes!

Now, even though Mangoes didn’t win the glory, I still have to show them some love. It just so happens that a few days ago I picked up this Champagne Mango from the co-op. I had never had this variety before, so I wanted to give it a try.

Choose one that gives slightly when you grip it

Cut off the “cheeks” first, and then pare the remaining section

I hedgehog it, so that I can do this…

I then cut the remaining fruit off of the pit and peel, and gnaw on the extra
pieces lest none go to waste. Some people are allergic to the pit though, FYI.

If you don’t eat half of it while you cut it, you end up with a lot more than this
So how was the Champagne Mango? Perhaps the sweetest Mango I’ve ever tasted. Perhaps I just happened upon a perfectly ripe one, or perhaps they are just an elite form of the fruit.

For all of you out there who chose Asparagus or Pineapple, what is your favorite way to use them?

Place your votes in today’s match, I can’t wait to see what you think!

And come back tomorrow for something a bit more carb-a-licious!

April Foods!

Nope- that title isn’t a joke.
April is FOOD MONTH on Meri-Goes-Round. I’ll be covering some of my favorite foods, making “top ten” category lists, trying out a few restaurants and markets, and maybe even sharing a few recipes.

What is the meaning of this, you ask? Veggies and Fruits are friends, not foes, right?
WRONG! In the grand tradition of NCAA basketball and Jezebel, I bring to you a brand new bracket. A fight for glory. Veggies vs. Fruits.
The winner takes all!

Throughout the month I want you guys to vote each day, for each round. At the end of the month, we’ll be left with one final question: Veg or Fruit?

Are you ready?

Today’s match is a double header, to start things off right.

For our veggies, I give you:

Asparagus vs. Green Beans

In the fruit fight (say that fast):

Mango vs. Pineapple

In case the suspense is killing you, here is the entire bracket, something to look forward to! Click to enlarge!

Alright, there you have it! Welcome to food month. Sit, stay awhile, and place your votes for round one!

Meri
